What counts as a rookie, and how we check

eligibility, computed not assumed the ledger, pick by pick boards, as published

A skater or goalie is rookie-eligible if he has never played more than 25 NHL games in a single preceding regular season, has not played 6 or more NHL games in each of two preceding seasons, and is under 26 years old on September 15, 2026.

A single 25-game NHL season does not by itself end rookie eligibility. Six games in each of two earlier seasons does. These badges apply the NHL games-and-age screen; your fantasy provider may use different rules. Read the NHL guidelines.

This page does not invent a number. Our per-format model reads three seasons of NHL per-game logs. A player who has never played gives it nothing, so it produces nothing, and the published board ranks print instead with the gap left visible. Where a club could not be resolved, the page says unresolved.

The ledger

Six drafts, top ten picks, where they are now

Sixty selections in draft order. Each card shows the selecting club, NHL career totals and every available club-season line for 2025–26 and 2026–27. International tournaments are kept out of these regular-season lines.

Read thisStatus badges are the 2026-27 eligibility rule, not a label anyone handed us. A 2021 pick can still read rookie-eligible, and several do. That is not a filing error.

The class

The 2026-27 rookie class, board by board

Every rank shown is a number a published board printed. A missing source means that board did not rank the player inside the depth we captured. Draft pedigree and recorded production sit alongside.

No NHL games at all

Rookie-eligible, but already have NHL games on file

The names most boards misfile. Each played a handful of NHL games without burning eligibility, so they are rookies for 2026-27 with a small sample you can look at.

Returning NHL players: the next step

These players have passed rookie eligibility and have a 2025–26 NHL line. Celebrini enters his third NHL season; the others have their own experience badges. The statistics below are from 2025–26.

Read thisSophomore means the season after the campaign that exhausted the NHL games threshold for rookie eligibility. Earlier short call-ups do not count as full rookie campaigns. Later badges count NHL seasons from that qualifying campaign; age-only exclusions read “Not rookie-eligible.”

Prospects still below the NHL

This page covers players who can count as fantasy rookies. Every organization's prospects are on Team Pipeline, and their 2026-27 lines are on Prospect Tracker.

How to use it

Draft pedigree is not year-one fantasy value

Start with the draft groups. A selection number describes draft-day investment; the season rows describe recorded production. Compare players within the same league and season before drawing conclusions from their scoring rates.

The six groups have different development windows. Earlier selections have had more time to reach the NHL. The 2026 group belongs here even when its players are still in junior, college or European leagues.

Use rookie eligibility as a league rule, not a promise of an NHL job. Camp attendance, a signed contract and a regular-season roster spot are separate facts. Check your fantasy provider’s own eligibility rules.

For players with no NHL sample the hierarchy is: where he plays now, his recorded production, then what a published fantasy board thinks. A point a game in the SHL at nineteen is not a point a game in junior. The where-now line on every card exists for that. The prospect board takes the same idea further down the depth chart.

Workflow: build the watchlist from the rookie-eligible group first, since their value can change inside one training camp. Add prospects whose league and age say they are close. Then compare the returning NHL players using their recorded season lines. The Fantasy Draft Desk re-ranks the scoreable pool by format.
