About
Where the numbers come from.
Hockey Insights Draft is an independent, static site. Everything on it is built ahead of time from credited public data, then deployed as plain files. Nothing loads from a live feed while you browse, so every page is a snapshot that ages until the next refresh. Each dataset listed below shows the stamp its own file records.

Source boundaries
Who owns which number
Each kind of fact has exactly one source of truth, so two pages can never disagree about where a number came from.
NHL API
The official record: draft results, drafted-player identity, current-season seasonTotals, rosters, and headshots (only where a real photo is published: placeholders fall back to monograms). In season it also supplies schedules, scores, box scores, game previews, per-game logs and NHL Edge goalie detail.
PuckPedia
Organization status: contracts, reserve rights, unsigned draft choices, no-QO/UFA labels, and 2027-2029 future draft capital. Its depth-chart app is the first source for the lineup files: line combinations, goalie depth order and out lists (IR and LTIR). It publishes no starting-goalie confirmation.
Daily Faceoff
Line combinations with injury status and notes, the second lineup source after PuckPedia. NHL.com's projected-lineup article is third, read only when it is dated that day. Daily Faceoff's starting-goalies page supplies the goalie board's start labels in its own words: Confirmed, Probable, Unconfirmed, Projected or Unknown.
Public boards & writers
Every ranking behind the 2026 board is credited by author, date, and link. Stale, partial, and no-rank lists stay out. Rankings here are a consensus of public boards, not a forecast. The fantasy desk reads four published fantasy boards (ESPN, NHL.com, Daily Faceoff and CBS Sports), each with its capture date.
NHL Central Scouting & Combine
Official lists used as official lists, CSS final rankings appear as sources; the combine invite list is a yes/no context badge, never a ranking.
Derived layers (ours)
Consensus ranks, peer-rank cohorts, the Redraft Wall and comparables are computed locally from the sources above. Model reads on public data, not scouting verdicts.
Freshness
Dataset stamps
In-season files print the stamp each file carries, read when this page loads. Draft files print the verification date from freshness.json, the registry the site ships. If a stamp looks old, the data is that old.

Model versions in use
Derived numbers (redraft ranks, class strength, pick value) come from a versioned model, not a live feed. Each snapshot below carries the version that produced it and the date it was pulled.

Editorial standards
Quotes, joins, and honest limits
Scout's notebook quotes are checked word-for-word against their cited articles before publishing: speakers, roles, and dates included. CHL→NHL career joins are reconciled against the official draft board, with mis-joins corrected and false joins quarantined in a visible audit. Where a photo isn't freely licensed, you see a monogram, not a watermark.
Honest limits: static files don't refresh themselves between deploys; peer-rank chips are skater-only; recent redraft classes are still maturing and will keep moving. Your saved settings stay in your browser: no accounts, no backend.
