Your format, this season.

A blocked shot is worth half a point in ESPN, a full point in Yahoo and nothing in Yahoo roto. Pick your system and the season re-ranks under it.

The preseason board

Every ranked player, as seated before opening night.

461 players

Built September 29 from three seasons of logs and the market consensus. It does not move in season; the Ranker does.

Skaters carry a board rank; goalies carry a rank inside the goalie pool and are seated at their market consensus, because the two per-game scales were never blended. Open the arrow on any row for the season-by-season record behind the number.

Goalies, on their own scale.

goalie pool only

Goalie ranks on this page are ranks among goalies, never among all players. The pools are not comparable and the blend was never computed across them. In a points format the workload columns are the story; in a category format the same goalie is a different asset entirely.

How the number was made.

the construction, in full

There is no house score on this page. Every rank is one published scoring system applied to three seasons of real per-game logs. The pieces behind each rank stay on screen: the weights, the qualifying threshold, the split boundary, the z pool and the H2H games figure.

The scoring systems behind the boards

Three are points systems, two read from the platform's own settings page, one a commonly-cited baseline for a platform that publishes no fixed default. Three are category sets. A points system produces a per-game figure. A category set produces a z-score profile, and those are not the same object. The board labels which one it is showing.

How to read this desk

What this page is, and what it refuses to be.

This is a ranking of what players have already done, priced in your league's scoring. Three seasons of per-game logs are weighted sixty, thirty and ten toward the present, renormalized whenever a season fails the twenty-game threshold, and then run through each platform's published scoring values. The ESPN, Yahoo, Fantrax and roto boards stop there. The H2H board takes one more step: blended ESPN points per game times a games figure, which is his 2025-26 games played over 82, scaled to the 84-game schedule and capped at 84. A skater with no 2025-26 games has no games figure and ranks below every skater who has one. There is no aging curve, no opportunity forecast and no adjustment for what a new coach might do.

Read the full method note

The consequence is that this board is deliberately conservative about change. A player who moved to a first power-play unit in July will be ranked on the role he had in April, and the market will be ahead of us on him. The market column sits beside every rank for exactly that reason. Where we disagree with the published boards by fifteen places or more, the disagreement gets its own section and its own evidence line, and the two numbers are printed together so the argument stays in the open.

A few honest limits, stated once. Hits and blocked shots come from per-game event data where it exists and from season totals where it does not, and the players who needed the fallback carry a flag on their row, in a blocks-scoring league that flag matters more than a place or two of rank. Goalies are ranked only against other goalies. Players with no NHL games are not ranked at all, only placed where other people placed them. The half-season split is one season of signal on a small sample, and it is labelled as such wherever it appears rather than folded silently into the rank.

Use the board the way a scout uses a list: as the starting order, not the verdict. Open a row and the seasons behind the number unfold, the category lines, the half-season direction, the z-profile that a roto league is really buying. Stars filter the board to your watchlist. Everything on this page is device-local; nothing you star leaves your browser.

Common questions about the preseason board.

Four things readers ask before they trust a board. The method inside the preseason board above spells them out at length.

How are these rankings built?

Three NHL seasons of per-game logs, blended 60 percent to 2025-26, 30 percent to 2024-25 and 10 percent to 2023-24, then priced with each site's own published scoring values. The H2H board adds one step: it multiplies the blended ESPN points per game by the player's 2025-26 games played over 82, scaled to an 84-game season and capped at 84. No other board uses a games figure.

Which scoring systems are covered?

ESPN, Yahoo and Fantrax points, Yahoo rotisserie categories, and an H2H view of the ESPN points system. Pick one and every rank on the page re-sorts under it. Each system is badged verified or commonly cited.

How many players are ranked?

400 skaters and 61 goaltenders. A consensus name with no NHL sample is still shown, with the absent sample stated on the row rather than filled in with a zero.

Where does the market consensus come from?

Four published boards: ESPN, NHL.com, Daily Faceoff and CBS Sports. The gap between our rank and theirs is printed beside every player, in both directions.
